Theme song: Get on Your Feet
To be human is to live a life of paradox.
Yet people who love you will tell you in authoritative tones to "get real."
They have a point, but they are only speaking to one half of what it is to be human.
They are talking about reality as it seems to be on a surface level, completely unfiltered by reality as it's possible.
If you live your life as if what you see around you is the end of the story, you'll get stuck. You may become frightened and angry because the "real" half of you who you are lives in a world of resignation, despair, and butterfly-pinned-to-a-wall social action.
You live your life according to rules made by stuck people and people who have a stake in your stuckness.
What you need is a good dose of unreality.
I'm here to tell you to get "unreal," to be "unrealistic."
The reason is, I want you to live life in all its richness -- especially the part you can't see and you don't even know you don't know it's not there.
To be human is to be capable, even, of things not yet imagined.
