I Love Rain

Theme song: Here Comes the Rain Again

Sunshine feels good on my skin and there's nothing quite like late nights spent wearing summer dresses, but rain is my true love.

Pretty rain sparkles and shines and makes things clean. Drops of it glisten on branches like jewelry when the sun breaks through.

What compares to the sweet sound of raindrops on roofs and windows?

One summer I visited my cousins in Maryland and we raced boats in gutters while in the distance lightening split the sky and thunder thudded all around.

In a friend's back yard while rain ran in rivulets down my unclothed body, I had the pleasure of drinking hot jasmine tea, steam rising.

In Mendocino, during a storm, wearing little more than a raincoat and boots, I climbed trees and played on the beach, wild waves crashing.

Once, after a heavy rain, the children and I went puddle stomping. We found the motherlode and splashed till we were wet to our waists.

Tonight I listened to rain benignly beat the skylights at my yoga studio during savasana. Walking home, soaked to the bone, I reveled in watching the slanting rain lit by car light.

I love the feeling of rain-matted hair and wet lips. I like watching leaves bounce. I wonder where the colibris are.

Rain fills my soul.

That is why I love it.
