Theme video: Desert Drifting Baseball Edition
Hank stayed home with the same 102 degree fever Jonjo had a couple of weeks ago, but this time I played working mom while he watched videos all day. Let me say this: I think the "safety" feature on my browser is a good thing. If nothing else, it slows things down a little.
I think you know what I mean by "things." The internet is full of them.
My children are introducing me to internet things they think are "Mom Safe." (Yes, that is a term used in my house.)
For instance? Water Slide Fails 2014 (Deemed by Hank, "unprofessional," so not included here. Perhaps he's right, but I will somewhat shamefacedly admit I thought the water fails were pretty funny. I guess I'm more of a dude than we knew.).
This blog post is a collaborative effort among me, Jonjo, and Hank. It's time to stop playing working mom and start finding out why (my not so little) dudes love sports as much as they do.
Let's get the inside story on the inner workings of pre-men and their love of all things sport, shall we? I hope you'll learn something new that will enhance your parenting experience.
The Dude Sports Connection: An Interview with Hank and Jonjo
Here is a transcript of our interview:
Mommy: Are you a dude?
Hank: Mmm, sure.
Jonjo: I guess. Well, I don't know if I'm a dude. Sometimes people call me dude. Dude just means person. Guy.
Mommy: Do you like sports?
Hank: Mmmmhmmm.
Jonjo: Yeah. I like sports.
Mommy: Which sports do you like?
Hank: Baseball, basketball, soccer, football. I do like playing football, but not on a team.
Jonjo: Baseball, basketball, football, soccer. I like most sports.
Mommy: Any sports you dislike?
Hank: No.
Jonjo: I don't really dislike any sports. I just don't play some sports.
Mommy: Why do dudes like sports?
Hank: I don't know. Because they are fun and you can use your energy.
Jonjo: What kind of question is that? Um. Well, some dudes don't like sports and some dudes do like sports. I don't know why they do. Well, 'cause they're fun.
Mommy: Why do dudes like watching videos about sports?
Hank: Hmm, because they're cool. Or funny. And they can update you on your team, like how it's doing.
Jonjo: Because they like rooting for a team and different sports are fun to watch.
Mommy: Is there anything you don't like about sports?
Hank: Hmmm, injuries, I guess.
Jonjo: Hmm, well, some are too dangerous, I guess to play, but, not really.
Mommy: Is there anything moms (or dads) don't understand about sports you think is obvious?
Hank: Hmmm, not like really.
Jonjo: Yeah! You [mommy] don't know much about sports.
Mommy: What is the most fun you ever had playing sports with your mom (yeah, that's me!)?
Hank: Mmmm. . . .I don't know. A lot of the time it's pretty fun.
Jonjo: Mmmm. . . .maybe like when we played at football at Lafayette Park [yeah, that was fun -- Mom's note].
Mommy: If you had one sports wish, what would it be?
Hank: To become a professional athlete, I guess.
Jonjo: I want to play football on a team, even though I had a concussion.
Mommy: Is there anything else I, or my readers, should know about sports?
Hank: No.
Jonjo: I don't know.
There it is, friends and fellow parents. Everything you always wanted to know about dudes and sports but were afraid (or forgot) to ask.
