Theme song: Milkshake
I think we all know One Thing Leads to Another.
This truism was illustrated when I decided to write about raw milk.
Why? I mean, why did I decide to write about raw milk?
Oh, for many reasons. For example, you can debate right against raw. Well. In my case, you can simply write that phrase and chuckle inwardly because, as those who know me know, I don't enjoy debating. Sure, like anyone, I enjoy being right. But I don't like to argue about it.
Laura and I debate things all the time (see Shollotapeia).
Some people think agreeing is somehow boring.
I'm not one of them. But I digress.
Before we do One Thing Leads to Another, we have to do First Things First. Am I wrong?
As I was saying, I decided to write about raw milk because Laura sent me an article (below) about raw milk. We actually, for very different reasons, both grew up on raw milk. Which illustrates that things can be Paradoxically, Simultaneously The Same And Different.
I don't want to argue with you. I think raw milk is AWESOME.
Here are some of my reasons:
- Mmmm, it feels slick and good when it slides down you're throat.
- The sweet creamy taste is like nothing else.
- It brings back childhood memories of going to Carmel Valley and milking cows so we could have fresh, raw milk at home. I will never forget the time one of the calves sucked my entire fist!
- Raw milk has complete enzymes that help assimilate fat and lactose.
- Bacteria in raw milk help build stronger immune systems.
- Raw milk is anti-inflammatory and
- It disturbs me to the core that Big Dairy has so much sway they can crush smaller producers and deny whole populations a healthful alternative. Sure, drink your dead milk. If I want to kill myself (no one has actually died from drinking raw milk -- that's part of the scam) drinking raw milk -- let me!
In case no one has noticed, we're facing an epidemic of chronic illness and obesity.
I believe that is because -- among other reasons -- our food is sterilized and dead.
Louis Pasteur's invention has become a classic Mixed Blessing. Get it? We need bacteria! Ecosystems are characterized by balance and milk is one example of how we've shaken that up.
We are losing the balance between large and small, raw and cooked, dead and alive.
That's the First Thing.
That First Thing Led to Another, which was that when I asked Laura if she knew of any songs about milk (being a DJ of course she does) she came up with Kelis' Milk Shake.
You may think the connection is a little tenuous, but I'd say Kelis' milk comes on strong -- and raw.
