Chaos Theory

Theme Song: Across the Universe

Okay. One minute you're eating roasted duck soup discussing the women and technology conference you're planning and you're feeling good because your tax accountant has just agreed to speak about women and finances.

The next minute you are watching her fall down half a flight of stairs and hearing the sound of her skull smacking against concrete.

The minute after that, you are calling 911. Soon thereafter you are riding in the back of an ambulance looking at the Ferry Building getting smaller and smaller out the window.

Now you are at the General, clutching two computer bags, two coats, two cell phones, two sets of keys and two wallets answering the question you already answered, which was:

"Who are you?"

The stated answer is: "I am her client."

The real answer is: I am in awe of the human condition.

People, if we share nothing else it is this: we will all grow old, get sick or have an accident and then die.

So. What to make of it?

I don't know except for that, yes, it seems significant.

And yes, you can die from hitting your head very hard on concrete. Or, you can be just fine but for the fact that now you're running a little more behind in your work.

Thus we take a heartbeat, which may last a decade, gather ourselves up, and keep going.

What do you make of it?
